In Memory of
Robert C Barker
July 26, 1947 - January 11, 2013 Obituary
Robert Craig Barker, 65, passed away early Friday morning in
the loving hands of his two children. Bob was born July 26, 1947 in St.
Joseph, Missouri to Laverne and Opal Barker, whom he loved dearly. Bob
spent his childhood in Topeka, Kansas playing baseball, riding trains,
and running around with his dog, Lucky.
The Barker family then
moved east to the Shawnee Mission area. It was in his early-teen years
that Bob discovered his lifelong passion for golf while working at
Brookridge CC. Soon after, Bob entered the candy brokerage business
where he built and grew lifelong relationships for 40 years, with a
broad scope of customers and manufacturers.
Bob's greatest loves
of all were his two children, Bobby, 31, and Ashley, 22. His kids were
the center-pieces of his world. Of Bob's various successes, he always
said his greatest accomplishment was being a father. And what a great
father he was.
He also greatly loved his daughter-in-law Lyndi and
his grandson Dylan, who affectionately referred to him as "BoBo". His
"granddog" Chester was his loyal companion.
Bob also loved the KU
Jayhawks, KC Chiefs, and the camaraderie with his many friends. His
charm was undeniable and he was always smiling. Bob has touched so many
with his comical and loving spirit. Bob will be greatly missed by all,
but we take comfort in knowing he is now with the Lord.
Funeral
services honoring Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January
19, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, with a
visitation starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make
charitable contributions to the PCD Foundation
