I think it was 1970, and I had the watch on the USS Strong, a destroyer sitting quietly in Naples, Italy harbor . I was a long way from Overland Park. As I was standing on the fantail of the ship.....nested with other ships, I saw a guy I thought I recognized ..it was Mike! We spent three days catching up.... Thank you Mike

Mike was a good friend of mine in high school. When I went in Navy boot camp in Dec 1966 in San Diego, it was rough for me. But I went in the barracks hallway and looked over the pictures of former Grads. There was Mike's picture. I thought if my friend could make it through this... maybe I can too. I never got to tell him "thanks". Steve DeMasters

Met Mike in the 5th grade.  After that, rode the bus together to jr. high and often had fun together during vacations and time off school.  It was so good to see him at the 40th reunion.  He had just recently retired and was looking forward to relaxation and time with his family.  RIP, Mike!

Mike and I spent a lot of time in Mr. Fluty's Auto Mechanics classes.  Our Senior year we often ate lunch at the same table.  I would usually bull my way to the front of the line (remember the salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and gravy?), take my tray back to the table, snarf it down without a word, and go back for another lunch.  Shucks, it was only 35 cents and I was a growing *boy* in those days.  When I would get up to take my first tray back to the window Mike would bellow out to the world "Fish has got the hon-gries" with that booming voice and infectious laugh of his.  Mike, I am sure the whole world misses you.
