Hobbies/Interests

I just retired from teaching 1st grade in Shawnee Mission at Rhein Benninghoven School in Shawnee where I taught first grade for 33 years. I have traveled internationally as a Primary Leader with "People to People" for 10 years. I have traveled to most western European countries, British Isles, Australia, New Zealand, China, Jamaica, Bahamas, British Colombia, Hawaii, and Canada. I am tutoring students and testing students entering school for readiness. I am approaching my hobbies with more gusto now! Painting, stained glass, interior design, travel, floral arranging, yoga, pilates, fun in the sun, movies, and new restaurants are interests. Living life to the fullest is my goal!!

School Story:

I remember laughter before and after school with friends on the bridge. I remember long walks between classes and rushing to making it before the bell rang because of passing notes. I particularly remember how I LOVED the red gym suits we wore in PE! I remember Algebra and Geometry with Mr. Henry and Mr. Loving and the beginning of a love of English literature. Slumber parties with all the girls were such fun and the carpool was the best. Friends were the most genuine and everyone was from a similar background. I can't forget my 2 yellow and pink prom dresses! Life was almost perfect! But, the day that is imprinted in my brain forever was November 22,1963 when we heard of the loss of JFK. That was the day my perfect world became real.

Comments:

We 65ers have the distinction of being the first class to go all the way through SMW, starting as sophomores and graduating as seniors. We were a huge class of "baby boomers". Great times with good friends are the memories I have. Some friendships last a lifetime. We were so special. I am glad I was a part of the class of 1965. Remember, "65 is Alive" and "West is Best" and don't ever forget it! I can't wait to see old, and I do mean "old" friends! Ha! Where did 50 years go?
