In Memory

Allen Slater

Allen Roy Slater, 75, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on January 29, 2022, with his family at his bedside.

He was born on January 15, 1947, to Thurlow St. Claire “Ted” and Jeanette Slater, and spent his childhood years in Wauseon, Ohio. The family later moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he would first meet his future wife, Kathy (Bohn) Slater. After another move to the Kansas City area, Allen attended high school at Shawnee Mission West where, by chance or by fate, Kathy’s family relocated one year later. Allen and Kathy both attended the University of Kansas and were married on January 25, 1969.

Allen went on to attend law school at the University of Kansas. He engaged in the private practice of law for 23 years until he was appointed as a Johnson County District Court Judge in 1997. As a District Court Judge, Allen focused on family court and took a great interest in helping children. He joined the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Court Appointed Special Advocate “CASA” organization became extremely important to him. Allen served as a District Court Judge until his retirement in 2012.

His entire life Allen loved being outdoors, fishing, camping, bird hunting, and spending time at the lake. Above all, Allen loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed family trips, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending their sporting events.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathy, son Mark and his wife Erin, daughter Kristin and her husband Dave, and grandchildren Kale and Kavan Slater, and Dylan, Jack, and Drew Everhart. He is also survived by his sister Anne Geronimo, nephew Dan Williams, and niece Jeannette Ballanco.

His Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, February 7th at 2:00 pm, at the Wesley Chapel of the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood (13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS, 66224). The family will be available for visitation prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

Allen's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time. Click Here to view the service.
