Jim was my friend.   He and I were in DeMolay together.   He was always an overachiever at everything he did.  He was a much better student than I ever thought of being, but when it came to Biology, we were both very competitive.   In Mr. Irwin's Biology class we used to compete fiercely to see who got the best grade on a test.

I can remember double dating with Jim a couple times.  Thinking back, I still can't believe he got his 6'5" frame into the back seat of my 1960 Corvair with his date.   I'll bet that's why we took his car more often than mine.

I lost track of Jim after he went to KU and I went to KSTC.   I found him years later while he was working in cancer research at his University.   Jim was kind of an introvert and never prone to superlatives.  Somehow I sensed he wasn't really happy.    Sadly, we never conversed again after that one time.

I still miss him.

Another one of the Lenexa kids, "Jimmy" was a great guy.  While he was studious, he had a great sense of humor.  I communicated with his daughter after I learned of his death.  She followed in his footsteps and became a physician.
