Gary was one of the first of our class to die, if I remember right. Because of his and several others of our class who were either killed or seriously injured on motorcycles, I refused to ever ride one.
What a great guy Gary was. My family moved to Overland Park during our junior year, and I remember that Gary was just so welcoming. Russ Ulmer and I attended his funeral together. So, so sad when he died, and I too hated motorcycles from that day forward.
Gary and I were friends way back at Milburn. He lived just three blocks from me and he attended Overland Park Christian Church (OPCC) and also the youth group.
Gary died while riding a mini-bike (motorized) on a gravel road just east of 87th and I-35. I remember they treated him at Shawnee Mission Hospital and it was real new hospital. They moved him to KU on Rainbow/39th where he died of brain damage. He died about two weeks before graduation in May 1965.
His services were held at OPCC.
He was a good guy and a big loss to those who knew him.
